I was at the track two weeks ago. During Tech inspection I was told I need a battery cut off switch for the car. Great, my battery is located in the factory location. Everything I can find on IHRA and even NHRA talks about if the battery is relocated. If it is a track rule, I get that, if so where are the track rules written down at?

I talked with the tech man about your issue. He said with the car that you had (not a street car) it is required for your safety. He said to feel free to talk with him about it the next time you are at the track.

What constitutes a street car? If I bought a new Vette put slicks on it and trailered it to the track is it a race car? Not being argumentative, I just read the rules that state if the battery is relocated. I still use the key on the ignition colum.

I am not the tech man. You will have to take this to him, where the two of you can discuss this. I haven't seen your car to decide as to whether it constitutes a "race car". That is for the tech man to decide. Either way, it is for your safety...not something to just make it harder for you to race. Your safety is a high priority at Northeast Dragway.

Two bits of free advice here, take them for what you think they are worth (from someone who has been there).
#1. It's more important to have things turn out the way you want them, then for you to be declared "right". Agreed?
#2. Two words: Tony Trueblood
Take care. Tom Worthington

"Tom396" I see where you are going with this. "outsidelookingin" have not run faster than 6.49.
After scouring the 2014 IHRA rule book, my car would fit in the class "Hot Rod" perfectly.
2014 IHRA Rule Book, page 87
"MASTER CUTOFF: Mandatory if battery is relocated or is specified by class requirements. It must be located on the rear of all entries and must break the positive side battery supply to the competition vehicle…. It must be labeled in a way that it is clearly identifiable as to which way off is positioned."

I have now run at Virginia Motor Sports Drag way and Richmond Drag way. Neither of these tracks requires cut off switch. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
